3 Tips for Going Back to School

You’ve decided to take a big step by going back to school! Starting your education is exciting, but for some, this journey can also feel stressful and intimidating. With the proper admissions team and plenty of research, you can go back to school at any stage in your life. Heading back to beauty school is even simpler, and we’ve got a few tips to help you along the way.

Make a Plan Before You Start Researching

Before you start looking at schools, consider what’s really important to you. Write out a list of pros and cons about heading to school to really be sure this is the step you want to take. Ask yourself if you want to go back to school part-time or full-time and decide the length of time you’re willing to be in school. At VICI Beauty Schools, students are enrolled full-time for eleven months in cosmetology or four months in esthiology. In less than a year, you’ll complete your education! Also, plan out your schedule and think about the career industry you’d like to work in.

Once you’ve made these decisions, you can start researching cosmetology schools. Think about which program you’d like to learn more about before you go in for a tour. Do you love nails? Is hair your calling? You don’t need to have all the details ironed out, and some students change their minds once they hear more about different programs. It will be helpful to have a baseline, though, before you meet with schools.

Get Your Paperwork in Order

If you’ve found the perfect school, you’ve toured the campus and you want to enroll, you’ll need to make sure all your paperwork is in order. You can’t start classes without it, so forgetting a form here or misplacing a form there could set you back. Don’t worry, though, a great Admissions team will walk you through all of it. At VICI Beauty Schools, for example, you would need to turn in an enrollment application, high school transcripts, a copy of your ID and a letter of intent. You’d also need to fill out your FAFSA, entrance counseling and master promissory note. No matter where you go, you’ll need to make sure all your paperwork is filled out so you can start class on time!

Take Time to Adjust to School

If you’ve been out of school for some time, you’ll need an adjustment period – and that’s totally fine! You’ll need to get back into the habit of studying, taking notes, asking questions in class and working with young adults. No one expects you to get the swing of things in the first week. Mentally prepare yourself for the new kinds of work you’ll be dealing with and understand that there will be stress at times. All students deal with that, no matter their age. As you adjust to beauty school, make sure you have a quiet space in your home to study and practice at night. Talk with your family so they understand how your life will differ now that you are in school. Stay positive, remain open-minded and respect diversity. Taking time to adjust instead of assuming you’ll get everything right away will make going back to school much easier.

Going back to school is exciting, and with the proper steps and support, it doesn’t need to be stressful.
