With so many beauty schools out there, how do you choose the right school for you? The search for the perfect school can seem overwhelming, so before you start looking at campuses, you’ll need to decide which aspects are really important to you. Is the school’s location a factor? Do you want to be familiar with the products it uses? Should it be an established school with a lot of experience? Once you figure out which features are most important to you, your search through beauty schools will be much easier.
We’ve chosen a few factors that our students used in finding the right beauty school for them.
Location, Location, Location
For some students, the location of the beauty school is very important. In a metro area, beauty schools may have limited parking, so for those who take the bus or walk, this could be the perfect school. For students who drive long commutes, perhaps not. Outside large cities, beauty schools have ample space for student parking, but the bus routes may be different. The right beauty school for you should match your transportation and parking needs.
The feel of the campus can either encourage a student’s growth or inhibit it. This is why you should always tour schools you’re interested in. When touring, you can decide if the look and feel of the school is one you like. Is it bold and colorful? Is it natural and calm? Is there plenty of space and are the classrooms well maintained? Many students take note of the clinic floor at our south campus. We have a very busy clinic floor, which appeals to a lot of students because it means they’ll have plenty of hands-on experience. At VICI Aveda Institute, we also have an on-campus coffee shop for students to grab lunch or a latte. Are these amenities important to you? The perfect beauty school should feel like your home away from home, and you want to make sure you feel comfortable in that space.
Financial Aid and Scholarships
Finances can be a deciding factor when exploring beauty schools. When researching beauty schools, work out a budget so you know how much you can afford to spend. Also find out if the beauty schools you are looking at take financial aid. If a school is accredited, then it’s held to higher standards by the National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts, and that school can offer federal financial aid. VICI Beauty Schools is accredited, so we accept the FAFSA. We also provide our students with a list of scholarships, and we walk them through the loan and grants process.
Don’t let tuition costs scare you too much. If you think you’ve found the perfect beauty school but you’re concerned about the price, talk to Admissions and Financial Services. The perfect school will want to accommodate your budgeting needs. Together, you should be able to come up with a plan.
Before you enroll in beauty school, make sure you’ve found the right school for you and it marks off the most important boxes on your check list. If you’re unsure, chat with Admissions and tour the school. You’ll have a far better understanding on how everything works once you visit in person. You’ll get a lot of advice from many different people on where you should go, but at the end of the day, it’s your education and your future.
