How to Become a Beauty Blogger

How to Become a Beauty Blogger

If you love writing, hair, makeup and fashion, a career as a beauty blogger could be perfect for you. It’s not as easy as just putting pen to paper, though. To be a successful beauty blogger, you’ll need to work hard and independently and keep up on all the trends. Here’s what you need to know if you want to make it in the blogosphere.

Set Up Your Blog

This is the creative, fun part. You’ll need to choose a platform for your blog. WordPress is the most popular, but you could also use Blogger or Tumblr. You’ll need to set up web hosting (there are lots of place online to do this or you can host through WordPress), and you’ll want to purchase a domain name. Your domain name will likely be whatever your blog name is, so choose wisely. You’ll want a fun, memorable name that reflects what your beauty blog is about. Once that’s complete, the designing can begin! Do you want an elegant feel? Something bright and exciting? You’ll need to figure out the tone of your brand and create a blog that fits that theme. Once your website is ready to go, you can start writing!

Write Content That Your Readers Will Love

We’re talking about quality over quantity here. While it’s important to write on a consistent basis, what you write about needs to be what your audience wants to read. They should be original and written in the same voice as your design. Maybe you’re funny or you’re eloquent. Write naturally and let your voice come out. As a beauty blogger, your readers want to know about the latest products and trends, so you may have to try some experimenting. Grab the newest hair and makeup products and try them for your readers. See a weird beauty trend? Give it a whirl and let your readers know how it worked. You’ll need to be the expert, so put your cosmetology expertise to work. If your readers trust you, they’ll visit your site for more information.

Start Sharing on Social Media

To direct traffic to your new blog, you’ll need to start posting on social media. You just wrote an amazing blog post about a new hair color trend. Let your fans know by sharing it on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Pinterest is a great resource for bloggers to share information, too. You don’t need to be on every platform, but which ever social media accounts you decide to start, make sure you post regularly. Increasing your following on social media will help increase your readers on your blog.

Be Patient and Persistent

As a blogger, you’ll need to be self-motivated. No one will force you to write or attend events or purchase new products. You’ll need to just do it. And you may not see results for a while. Thousands of readers won’t flock to your site overnight, unfortunately. It’s going to take time and energy to build your brand. You’ll need to be consistent and write on a regular basis for a while before people start subscribing to your blog. You’ll want to continue studying blogging, social media and beauty so your writing improves. It’s a lot of hard work, but if you have the patience and time for it, beauty blogging can turn into a full-time career. Lots of bloggers make a living off the ads on their websites and YouTube channels. Some go on to write books and appear as guest speakers at events. If you’re ready to invest your time and energy into blogging, it could be a serious career for you!
