It’s December, and in addition to being excited about Santa, Christmas presents and sugar cookies, we’re excited about this month’s Student Spotlight! VICI Beauty School wants to introduce you to Scarlet. She’s an esthiology student at our south campus whose attendance, GPA and productivity is high. She has a bright, positive attitude and is a definite go-getter. We sat down to talk to Scarlet about her experience at VICI Beauty School and what her future goals are.
VICI: Why did you choose esthiology as your career path?
Scarlet: I love makeup. And I thought I would love waxing, which I do. I really like both of those. I’m all about beauty and fashion, so esthiology was a good choice for me.
V: What’s the most creative part of what you do?
S: The zombie makeover was the most creative thing I’ve done so far. It was so fun. And being on TV was a great experience. Anything with makeup is creative.
V: What challenges have you faced and how have you overcome them?
S: I’ve been out of school for ten years and it was hard to get back into studying and the whole school groove. I had to get that “wanting to do well” feeling back. Now that I’m older, and I’m spending money on my education, I want to leave successful. I want to leave here better than I came in and with a career. Because I’ve worked at dead end jobs, coming back here makes me appreciate this so much more. I want something for myself. This career will be so much more than making ends meet. I want to wake up every morning and be excited to work. And I want to make others happy.
V: What do you want to do when you graduate?
S: I really enjoy waxing and makeup, so I’d like to start at a salon or spa where I can do a little bit of everything. I’d like to go more into makeup artistry and see where that goes. I do love waxing, though. I want something high paced like a salon. I really like making people feel beautiful and I love seeing the end result.
V: What advice would you give to a student just entering this program?
S: Don’t sweat the small stuff. Focus on the end goal. Have a good attitude and have an open mind. If you’re set in your ways, you might miss an idea that can further you. I had to learn to listen to people. Everything people here tell you is meant to further and better you, so listen to it. You’ll also have to deal with change, so keeping that open mind is important.
We completely agree with Scarlet that keeping an open mind is important, and we’re glad to have her at our school. She’s very passionate about what she does (if you want a waxing, she’s the lady to talk to!) Scarlet graduated from Oak Creek High School – just like another student spotlight feature – and her favorite color is blue, which perfectly matches her hair color. We’re happy to have students like Scarlet at our esthiology school. We know she’ll go on to do amazing things.
